Carnegie Library still on the chopping block

Written October 10th, 2019 by Hasso Hering

Closing the Carnegie Library downtown is still not off the table of potential steps the Albany City Council is considering to save money in the next few years. But no definite agreement on that or anything else emerged from yet another round of council budget discussions Wednesday night.

Is it twilight for downtown library?

Written July 23rd, 2019 by Hasso Hering

Casting about for ways to save money, the Albany City Council is talking about possibly “repurposing” the downtown Carnegie Library. What that means, apparently, is closing the library and using the building for something else.

The old sources confirm: No ‘s’ on Lyon

Written February 3rd, 2019 by Hasso Hering

Though not, admittedly, among the burning issues of the day, how to spell Albany’s Lyon Street is occasionally in dispute. People tend to spell it with an “s” at the end of Lyon, but the “s” does not belong there.

Written June 18th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

Good news for book readers, especially those living in West and North Albany and near downtown. For the first time in a long time, the downtown branch of the Albany Public Library will be open Saturdays this summer, starting June 25.

Too little space for all that stuff

Written February 17th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

It’s no big deal, obviously, but this may not be the best way to set up a public library’s book return for when the building is closed, especially if the closure extends over a three-day weekend.
