A reader’s comment sent me back to the new roundabout on Albany’s Salem Avenue on Wednesday. Watching five minutes of peak-hour traffic, I didn’t see any problems. No crashes and no close calls.

As you may have read here before, Albany is about to get another traffic roundabout. Judging by how befuddled a few drivers still seem to be by these features on our streets, it might be worth another look at how to use them.
As you may have noticed when traveling on Albany’s Salem Avenue this month, contract crews have been working to get the street ready for repaving and construction of a “mini-roundabout.”
Largely out of sight from most of Albany, a key piece of a planned north-south street connection was completed last year on the east side of Interstate 5.
Watching new roundabout, seeing it work
The mini-roundabout on Salem Avenue at Waverly Drive was opened over Labor Day weekend last year. Eight months later, it is still giving some people fits, or so it seems.
