On a Sunday drive through the countryside of Linn County, Kathy and I came across this historical marker behind the railroad track about three miles west of Scio, where Gilkey and Goar roads meet.

A bridge district, with Benton this time?

North Albany property owners might be interested in Oregon House Bill 2887. It would allow the formation of a taxing district to build a new bridge in the Salem region. And Benton County property owners would help pay.

Population update: Fodder for a story

The people at Portland State University came out with their annual population estimates the other day.  If the report conceals startling news about Albany and other mid-valley towns, I don’t see it. But the new numbers provide fodder for a story nevertheless.

Open all the way: Hwy. 34 bikeway

Finally, the Highway 34 bikeway in Linn County is finished and open to traffic. It allows cyclists to make a convenient and relatively safe round trip from Albany to Corvallis, though when I tried it out Thursday afternoon, mine was the only bike I saw all along the roughly 25 miles of the route.
