Bike path lines: An idea worth copying

Written April 16th, 2019 by Hasso Hering

Here’s a helpful little detail Albany might want to copy on couple blind curves on the riverside Dave Clark Bike Path: A center line intended to keep cyclists and others from possibly running into each other. I happened to notice such a line on ODOT’s Bikeway along Highway 34. The painted stripe goes down the […]

Let’s keep that new bikeway clear

Written September 22nd, 2016 by Hasso Hering

The million-dollar bike route on the north side of Highway 34 east of Corvallis is less than a year old, but it doesn’t look new any more. It could use a little attention on the maintenance front.

Open all the way: Hwy. 34 bikeway

Written November 12th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Finally, the Highway 34 bikeway in Linn County is finished and open to traffic. It allows cyclists to make a convenient and relatively safe round trip from Albany to Corvallis, though when I tried it out Thursday afternoon, mine was the only bike I saw all along the roughly 25 miles of the route.

Hwy. 34 bikeway: Still not quite open

Written November 9th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

On the new and almost-open bikeway along Highway 34 west from Riverside Drive, it’s noisy but not nearly as noisy as my video makes it seem. The combination of traffic and wind played havoc with the little microphone on my camera. Still, I enjoyed Wednesday’s test ride on the part of the bikeway that’s now […]

Bikeway update: The word is soon

Written October 8th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

On Thursday I rode down Riverside Drive to check on progress on the bikeway being built along Highway 34. I was hoping it might be finished early, ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline. No such luck. But the wait won’t be too long.

A blast — and much less risky

Written September 11th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Riding a bike from West Albany to Corvallis and back is going to be a blast — and a much safer blast at that — once the bikeway along Highway 34 is completed this fall. The route is still closed, according to all the signs. But on Friday, with nothing but time on my hands, […]
