The former St.Francis Hotel at First Avenue and Ferry Street in Albany might end up with an addition, a crowning feature you might say. Drawings prepared by Albany architect Don Johnson for the renovation of the four-story structure show a penthouse on the roof.

The Albany Labor Temple hasn’t been called that for many years, and now its owners want to rename it for its origin more than a century ago. They intend to call it the Wood Apartments.


Riverfront redesign project gets green light

A team of consultants led by Walker Macy, a Portland firm, now has the approval of Albany’s urban renewal agency to gather public opinion and then make plans for redeveloping the city’s Willamette Riverfront.


One downtown restoration nearly done

The city-supported renovation of the Fortmiller Building at 420 Third Ave. S.W. looks nearly complete, at least from the outside and from the back, and on Wednesday the advisory board of the Central Albany Revitalization Area plans to take a look inside.
