Get this public servant back to work

Written June 6th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Michael Rodgers no longer faces a criminal investigation, but the state government’s unjust treatment of him continues. He is still suspended from his job, and that is something the governor should put right.

The Kitzhaber I like to remember

Written February 17th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

John Kitzhaber was not at the Capitol on Tuesday, as far as I know. But his portrait was, hanging on the wall just outside the main entrance to the chamber of the Senate, where he served many years and did his best work. Tuesday was Kitzhaber’s last full day as governor; his resignation under fire […]

That’s not believable, Governor

Written February 12th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Governor Kitzhaber evidently thinks of Oregonians as idiots who will believe anything. He now wants us to believe that he called Secretary of State Kate Brown and asked her to hustle back from a conference in Washington, D.C., so he could tell her he was not resigning. Really?

It’s nice to be reminded now and then, and especially just before an election, how casually public money is being thrown around at various levels of government. Three examples spring to mind.

Cylvia Hayes and Oregon prosperity

Written January 10th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Turns out that Oregon has a “Prosperity Initiative” and Cylvia Hayes, the governor’s lady, is in charge of it. I had never heard of this until Willamette Week reported that Hayes had given a talk about prosperity in Portland on Dec. 16, when she got a parking ticket for displaying a state police pass on […]
