For symbolism without substance, few actions will beat the “declaration of sanctuary” by the Benton County Board of Commissioners. Maybe the declaration makes some people feel better, but it changes nothing in the real world.

Would it hurt Barack Obama to at least try to look and act like the president of a republic instead of an emperor? Just look at what they now call the “optics” of his announcement on illegal immigrants.

The papers tell us that President Obama “still intends to act on his own to change immigration policy,” though he’s no longer sure just when he’ll do this. In this case his dithering may make some kind of sense. Perhaps he realizes that he might be making a big mistake by going ahead.

New law adds to Oregon’s sanctuary stand
In Oregon we now have a state law intended to let illegal aliens know ahead of time when the government is about to audit the forms they filled out in order to get a job.
