In case you’ve been paying attention to ODOT’s plans for a bridge project on Highway 34 to Waldport, you may want to know that the road closure has been postponed until the week after Labor Day.

If you plan on taking Highway 34 to the central Oregon coast later this month — whether to visit the scene in the photo above or somewhere else — you might be interested in ODOT’s plan to close a bridge for repairs over one whole weekend.

If you’re taking Highway 34 to the coast to escape the Willamette Valley heat this week, be aware of the possibility of delays as you get within a few miles of Waldport.

On the curves of Hwy. 34, a sign upgrade

This is a curve advisory speed sign on OR 34, and ODOT says it wants to upgrade signs like this between Waldport and Philomath starting in 2021. But how will they keep this change from giving drivers the wrong idea?

Let’s keep that new bikeway clear

The million-dollar bike route on the north side of Highway 34 east of Corvallis is less than a year old, but it doesn’t look new any more. It could use a little attention on the maintenance front.

Along a bikeway: Whimsy or what?

Riding west on the new bikeway alongside Highway 34 the other day, I saw this little plastic doll resting against the base of a Pacific Power pole and didn’t think anything of it. Then I came to the power pole next in line.
