Every once in a while I find myself on the northern-most leg of the Periwinkle Bikepath in Albany. It usually looks like a sad place, as it did last Monday.

A couple of things caught my attention Friday on a bike ride along Albany’s new plaza street, the block of Water Avenue near the entrance to Monteith Riverpark.

If you occasionally find it convenient to walk or ride your bike on the historic railroad right-of-way between Hill and Oak streets, you might want to use it more often and defend your right to do so.

A good idea, but vandals destroyed it

Last year I noticed that the Albany Parks Department had carried out a nice new idea at Sunrise Park. But like so many good things in public spaces, it did not last because vandals ruined it.

As expected, it didn’t take long for vandals to start undoing the volunteer work of Albany’s “graffiti chasers” on the Periwinkle Bikepath behind Lowe’s, near Ninth Avenue.

River pier repairs: What the vandalism cost
