Surrounded by heavy traffic in the middle of Albany, there are two islands of lawn, flowers, bushes and trees. Lately the larger of the two has become a place for apparently homeless people to hang out.

Some left turns will become impossible on Santiam Highway between Waverly Drive and Clay Street in Albany once ODOT gets through with a safety project there.

There’s more to the new traffic cameras ODOT has installed on Spring Hill Drive at Highway 20 in North Albany. I learned this today from Angela Beers-Seydel, ODOT’s  public information officer for this area.


Highway 20 project worries Midway Farms

Improvements now getting started to prevent collisions on the Albany-Corvallis Highway may eventually help drivers, but they are creating headaches for the owner of Midway Farms, the small organic grocery and farm store on the highway near the junction with Independence Highway.

This week ODOT plans to start construction of safety improvements along the Albany-Corvallis Highway, and when I looked at the plans, I was surprised to learn that despite appearances to the contrary, the long-delayed Albany-Corvallis bikeway is not completely dead.

Benton: UP won’t allow bikeway underpass

It’s hard to say whether the long-planned but never built Albany-Corvallis Bikeway in Benton County is still a possibility, especially now that the Albany portion has to be reconsidered.
