That’s the last thing Albany’s struggling downtown needs — taggers. And yet here we are, on Monday afternoon, looking across Second Avenue near Ellsworth, where somebody with a can of red spray paint had gone to work on a cabinet holding, presumably, traffic signal controls.

On Water Avenue, nearly half the street’s width has disappeared so that crossing gates can be installed at this gateway to the Edgewater Village development. Albany drivers may wonder if this is wise.


On the riverfront: Freeing creativity

The Albany riverfront is on my regular bike route, so I could hardly miss the big signs announcing that something new was happening there. On Friday I leaned the bike against the wall of the old Albany Iron Works building and went inside to learn more.

Espolon update: Repair plans filed

This building on First Avenue in downtown Albany has been closed since part of its façade collapsed during attempted repairs more than a year ago. But now the owner has submitted repair plans for the city’s review.
