More than one-third of Albany’s streets are in poor condition, the city staff says. That’s 52 miles of pavement, and there is no money in the city budget to get them fixed.
With the support of Mayor Sharon Konopa, Albany officials are working on a “public outreach” campaign that may lead to council action on a surcharge on city utility bills to raise money for street repairs.
The Albany City Council has not forgotten about street repairs. Once again on Wednesday the members talked about ways of getting people to pay more so streets could be properly maintained.
