If you like outdoor music performed live by local artists, the Albany Farmers’ Market is the place you want to be on Saturday mornings. But because it’s fall, time is running out. Only a few Saturdays remain before the market makes its last appearance of 2016 on Nov. 19.


Burger King files to rebuild

If you were among those who felt Albany could not survive with only one Burger King, take heart. The city Building Division has received an application for a permit to rebuild the Burger King at 1435 Geary St. S.E, which burned to the ground on July 9.

GAPS: How much is just right?

Would voters in the Greater Albany School District vote for a tax increase big enough to cover more than $200 million in school expansions, additions and renovations? Probably not. So district leaders are trying to guess the amount that is less but could possibly win approval in a bond election tentatively planned next May.


OReGO update: Developing doubts

As one of the volunteers paying Oregon’s vehicle mileage tax — in theory anyway — I’m thinking the program is needlessly complicated as long as it applies to vehicles powered by conventional fuel. That’s because of all the record keeping necessary to calculate the tiny difference between the mileage tax and the fuel tax already paid.


Structural issues close downtown place

This restaurant in downtown Albany is likely to stay closed until problems with its building are sorted out. The city building department has told the owner he has the choice of repairing the structure or tearing it down.
