[youtube video=”2g6J3dtpKaI”] While Albany seemed all but deserted Sunday because of the holiday weekend, I caught a brief glimpse of one of the town’s elusive but reportedly plentiful creatures. If you click on the video you can see it too, sort of.
Here’s something I didn’t know until Friday: Postal delivery vehicles are not supposed to back up. And this was the reason given for why six households along a newly constructed segment of Riverside Drive didn’t get their mail delivered most of this week.
The bike took me past Freeway Lakes southeast of Albany the other day. Once again I was glad to see that this place is getting some use by people in small boats.
Now that the lines have been painted on the newly widened and repaved segment of Riverside Drive outside of Albany, I rode my bike along a part of the new road on a very windy Wednesday afternoon. And I found this road clearly very much improved.
Jim Ketter’s request to get rid of the barbed wire along the Albany-Santiam Canal in the Monteith Historic District, and maybe even lower the fences, has gotten nowhere so far.
Whether this works if speed control is the goal, I’m not sure. Yachats, on the central coast in Lincoln County, seems to think it’s worth a try.
Thanks for a neighborhood tradition
For years, on patriotic holidays somebody has been hanging flags from the power poles up and down Albany’s Broadway Street, but I don’t know who.
