Is tennis going out of style as a recreational sport? You might get that idea if you look at the photo above. But it’s a trick shot and doesn’t say anything about whether tennis is still being played.
A month ago I happened to notice the weeds on the tennis courts at Linn-Benton Community College and groused about the courts’ deteriorated condition. The college maintenance department said at the time it was about to do something about the weeds. And sure enough, when I took another look this week, the old weeds were gone.
Over the weekend I happened to ride past the tennis courts at Linn-Benton Community College, and I was sad to see the shape they were in. But the Albany college says something’s about to be done about the weeds.
Revisiting memories of tennis long ago
It was probably 30 or 40 years ago that I last had occasion to hit a tennis ball on the courts behind North Albany Middle School. Wondering whether the courts still exist, I stopped at the school on a bike ride and found that the courts are still there.
