A big blue graphic now frames the front door of Fish of Albany Inc., the nonprofit that moved to the building at Second Avenue and Main Street last fall.
On Dec. 8 I left you hanging about the striking mural I had discovered on an out-of-the-way Albany wall. I didn’t know anything about it then. Now I’ve learned at least a little.
Right about here, on Albany’s Second Avenue S.E., is where the city council wants to install a radar speed display sign in the hope of slowing drivers down. But first, the city wants to have good data on average speeds there now.
Drivers on Albany’s Second Avenue will soon be seeing something new to catch their attention. The city council Monday called for the installation of a radar speed display sign on Second at Thurston Street, a block before vehicles go over the hump of the railroad track.
Monday was kind of a slow day, which may explain why I first noticed and then wondered about the shape of the new sidewalk on Second Avenue downtown.
Albany’s downtown streets might get a facelift over the next few years. Or they might not, depending on what the Central Albany Revitalization Area advisory board thinks of design options worked up the Portland firm of George Crandall, CARA’s architectural adviser.
What will replace trees on 2nd Avenue?
A year and a half ago, the City of Albany took out nine trees on Second Avenue behind the Oregon Department of Human Services building, just east of Lyon Street, and planned to replace them.
