The City of Albany has received its second request to convert a single-family subdivision to “middle housing” at twice the density previously approved.
The south end of Lochner Road was supposed to be open again by mid-April, but it remained closed because of construction at the beginning of May.
Now is a great time to ride your bike down Lochner Road in south Albany, as I discovered Saturday. The reason is no cars.
This July the Albany City Council annexed 20 acres of farmland and a mobile home at Lochner and Ellingson Roads. Now, as expected, a nationwide homebuilding company has filed a tentative subdivision plat for 101 houses on the land.

Seeing sheep and wondering about the land
A bike ride took me along Ellingson Road on the south side of Albany Saturday. When I stopped to snap a photo of sheep bunched along the fence, the animals took off. So instead, I wondered about the land on which they were grazing:
