A routine sign posted by the Albany planning division prompted a flurry of comments last week on social media, ranging from the need for housing to complaints about too much growth. That’s not, though, what this is about.

Somebody had told me about a warning written in chalk on the walk at Albany’s Eads Park. On a bike ride Tuesday evening I saw that it was still there.


Wood-chip path: Not great for bikes

That’s a swell-looking new pathway along the Willamette River between Bowman and Eads parks in Albany. Only trouble: The thick layer of wood chips means you can’t ride a bike there.

Albany parks, a playground for turkeys

On my riverfront bike route the other day, I was surprised to see two wild turkeys in Eads Park. A couple of days later they stuck around long enough for the long-distance images you see here.
