This boardwalk, part of Albany’s Dave Clark Path, was built to skirt a restaurant that perched on the Willamette riverbank below the Ellsworth Street Bridge. The restaurant burned down years ago, but the path still winds around where it sat.
There’s a development in what started years ago as the “cheese grater” story, but it has nothing to do with the big aluminum front that hides the facade of one of the oldest buildings in downtown Albany.
The fabled “cheese grater” on Albany’s First Avenue — a sign of progress in the 1960s and now considered an architectural atrocity — is staying up there, at least for now.
The new lights being installed downtown are certainly bright, even if they illuminate only an empty street as, in this case, three blocks of Third Avenue. Being perhaps too easily impressed, I was interested in the light show on Albany’s Second Avenue on Thursday night. So I turned the camera on.
