The Tesla company has told the Albany building department it plans to construct an electric vehicle charging station with 16 stalls on Southeast Pacific Boulevard.
Evidently undeterred by their experience with the lone city-sponsored electric-vehicle charger downtown, Albany officials hope to get federal money to pay for installing four more.
Unless our current state politicians are replaced before then and the policies and rules are changed, in Oregon you won’t be able to buy a conventional new car in 13 years.
If you have an electric car, pretty soon you’ll be able to park it in downtown Albany and charge the batteries — unless somebody else has had the same idea and got there first. In which case you’d have to wait your turn.
Pacific Power has offered to give the Albany urban renewal district (CARA) $63,548 to set up public charging stations for electric vehicles downtown.
