An archaeological team continued working Monday at the construction site of “The Banks” apartment project near Bowman Park on the Willamette River. Exactly what they are finding, if anything, remains a matter of speculation.

Preparing the site for the construction of The Banks apartment complex on Albany’s riverfront produced what may have been a surprise to the builders: They uncovered the opening of an underground void or tunnel.

The 1900 block of Northeast Linn Avenue looked a lot less leafy this afternoon than it used to. As expected, logging had begun on the north side of the street to make room for “The Banks,” a 120-unit apartment complex on the Willamette river.
