Albany canals: A plan unfulfilled

Every time I see this fence on the Albany-Santiam Canal, I’m reminded of the Town Center Plan the city council adopted in 1995. The barbed wire is a sign of one of the unfulfilled hopes that the plan contained.

CARA gets request for $336,000

  On March 4 the advisory board of the Central Albany Revitalization Area agreed it would consider a request for financial aid to save an old building at 420 Third Ave. S.W. and turn it into two offices and nine apartments. Now it has learned the size of the request: $336,000.

Fixup projects on CARA agenda

A couple of structures in east Albany could  get a new look with help from urban renewal funds if the city grants their owners’ requests. The proposals are on the agenda for review when the Central Albany Revitalization Area advisory board meets at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at City Hall.
