What’s up at Edgewater Village?

Written November 9th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Edgewater Village is a planned residential neighborhood that everyone hopes will rejuvenate Albany’s riverfront on the Willamette. The hope is there, along with new sewer lines and new streets, but the first house has yet to be started. The public has an interest because CARA, the city’s urban renewal program, has spent $2.4 million on […]

CARA: Let’s finish what we started

Written September 18th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

CARA, Albany’s downtown renewal program, wants to complete what it started. That’s why on Thursday, the advisory board of the Central Albany Revitalization Area voted unanimously to authorize that designs be prepared of streetscape improvements along segments of Water, Second and Third avenues as well as Lyon and Ellsworth streets.

CARA to help on police, fire buildings

Let CARA do its job: Revival

Written May 29th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

CARA, Albany’s downtown urban renewal district, will hold a public open house Wednesday (June 4) to collect suggestions on which “public infrastructure” projects it should pursue. But hanging over the agency now is the proposal to use its funding to help pay for the central fire station and expansion of the police headquarters. Tempting though that idea […]

Woodland Square on track to start

Written May 1st, 2014 by Hasso Hering

The transformation of Woodland Square, the dilapidated trailer park on Periwinkle Creek in Albany’s Willamette Neighborhood, is about to start in earnest. Seventeen trailers used to be there, and only two remain. “Both these folks have places to go,” says Julie Garver of Innovative Housing Inc. “They will be moving in the next couple of […]
