What were they thinking? It’s no big deal, but that’s what I was wondering when I looked at this bit of landscaping in the Albany Fred Meyer parking lot on Wednesday afternoon.
Albany has started upgrading the signage that’s supposed to keep drivers of tall trucks from ramming their rigs into the Lafayette Street trestle on First Avenue. Brighter blinking lights are part of the work.
The mystery of the name in the sidewalk on Albany’s First Avenue — if a mystery it was —  has been cleared up, as far as I’m concerned.
Wanting to take a look at the level of the Willamette River after several days of rain on Thanksgiving Day, I found myself at Takena Landing and looked up. Not a pretty sight, I would say.
There’s a movement across the country to show that towns have been requiring far more off-street parking than they need. But on Friday afternoon at Heritage Mall, it would have been hard to find anyone who agreed.
Albany-Corvallis path: Pedaling on?
There’s some doubt whether the long-proposed Albany-Corvallis bike path will ever be built, but Benton County is pedaling on with the idea, so far at least. The next step is a public meeting to hear a report from consultants on phase 1 of their work and “discuss alternative routes.”
