To the casual observer the wooden floating dock at Albany’s Takena Landing doesn’t look as though it’s in bad shape. But it’s going to be replaced next spring, and the new one will have a fiberglass deck.
Tooling around downtown Albany on a bike can sometimes take you to an interesting sight, such as the regrettable end of a big old tree.
That was quite a celebration, the launching Thursday of Albany’s Waverly Duck in the pond for which it was named.
Sunshine and dry weather meant it was time for my annual visit to Bowers Rock State Park. The park is a good place to see natural open space along the Willamette River. And it’s still hard to get to because there’s no easy place to park and the only access road tries to keep the public out.
The walking and bike paths connecting Albany Station to Swanson Park now are part of the Albany park system, and that means park rules against drinking and drug use, among other things, apply.
Here’s a first for the Albany City Council, at least in living memory: Unwilling to take a second long lecture from a man denied a permit to hold a marijuana festival in a city park, the mayor called a recess and the council walked out.
An update on Courtesy Corner
As you can see and hear if you click on the few seconds of video above, work has resumed at the Courtesy Corner Shell station in Albany after having temporarily ground to a halt.
