Here’s something that surprised me on a bike ride through the open country south of Albany: A grove of trees on the east side of Meadow Road was gone.

Albany’s Periwinkle Bikepath has had an awkward dead end on Queen Avenue since it was built in 1977. The city now has floated the idea of extending the path east along Queen to the intersection with Geary Street.

One of my bike routes from Albany goes out Riverside Drive and turns right on Bryant Drive for the return. I’m in town one minute and in the middle of the country 60 seconds later.
