Sunday was the kind of day you enjoy when you ride a bike for fun in the Willamette Valley: Sunny, mild for December and, out on Bryant Drive, absolutely still.
I wanted to complete my little cruise of Albany’s Willamette Neighborhood and learn a bit more about it. So here it is:
If you want to ride your bike around perfectly smooth city streets without any other traffic for as long as you want, try downtown Albany on the Sunday night after Thanksgiving. Or any Sunday night.
To a lifelong city dweller like me, almost all the things being grown beyond the outskirts of town are mystery crops. And so it was when I went on a short neighborhood bike ride before the Thanksgiving meal.
On Monday I got a late start on my bike ride. Which explains, at least in part, why I was out here in the dark.
In November, sunny days are not routine in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, so you have to grab them when they occur. Which is what I did when I got the chance on Friday afternoon before the fog rolled in.
One dead end on my riverfront beat
This is the north end of Harrison Street in Albany’s Willamette Neighborhood. Beyond the guardrail there’s Bowman Park, but don’t try to get there this way.
