This is the year the Waverly Drive bridge on Cox Creek will finally be replaced with a new one.

Cox Creek bridge replacement inches forward

On a bike ride Wednesday, I stopped at the bridge across Cox Creek on Waverly Drive. Except that the pavement has become more pitted, little has changed there since the bridge was briefly closed and then restricted to one driving lane in 2005.

That sad little bridge, still in need of repair

The country seems to be intent on self-destruction, so maybe this little bridge in Albany is a fitting symbol of our habit of letting things go till they get out of hand.

How about fixing this bridge?

Albany and Millersburg like to show off their Talking Water Gardens. But to get there, visitors first have to pass over this sad-looking bridge. While the water gardens have won awards as an ingenious system for treating and cooling wastewater, the gateway to it seems to reflect a regrettable degree of infrastructure neglect.
