Tuesday’s bike ride along my riverfront beat took me through Monteith Park, where I could not help but notice that tree cutters were at work once again.

City: Cutting trees to save the sidewalks

The Albany neighborhood between Periwinkle Elementary School and Waverly Drive is about to lose its mature street trees. At least one homeowner wishes the city would leave the trees be.

Along Queen, street trees to come down

A reader asked me Sunday if the trees on Queen Avenue marked with green ribbons were to be cut down. I told her I would check on Monday. And the answer is yes, the city intends to have those trees felled.

That big old black walnut tree at the back of a vacant lot in Albany is destined to be cut down, but on Nov. 10 it was still there, so I thought I’d take another photo or two.

Big tree at issue: Taking a closer look

Wanting to save a big old walnut tree was the main reason the Albany Planning Commission turned down a site plan for eight townhouses on July 19. On Aug. 2 the commission rescinded that decision and scheduled a new hearing for Sept. 13, but the tree issue is still there.
