Wanting to save a big old walnut tree was the main reason the Albany Planning Commission turned down a site plan for eight townhouses on July 19. On Aug. 2 the commission rescinded that decision and scheduled a new hearing for Sept. 13, but the tree issue is still there.

The Albany Planning Division is processing a request for a zone change that would allow more and smaller residential lots on a piece of undeveloped woodland off Franklin Avenue and Airport Road.

Could those be the first cherry blossoms along Albany’s Lyon Street downtown? They don’t look like much yet, but wait a few years until those trees are bigger and put on a springtime show, even in the rain.
