Just a quick reminder of an obvious fact: Just because the City of Albany approves new housing does not mean that new housing will be built, at least not right away.
What has happened lately at Franklin Avenue and Airport Road in Albany? Nothing, that’s what. The 6-acre site where 11 houses and more than 40 apartments have been approved is covered by dead grass and the remaining oaks.
What happened to the plan to build 44 apartments and 11 single-family houses at the corner of Airport Road and Franklin Avenue, a plan approved by the Albany Planning Commission in August 2020?
The brush has been cleared away, and pretty soon the oaks and other mature trees will come down as well on Franklin Avenue just west of Airport Road and Interstate 5.

An errand last month took me along Airport Road in Albany, where I was surprised to see a billboard that said the site of a long-planned housing development was for sale.
