One evening last week found me and my bike on Santiam Highway east of the interstate. As you may guess, this is not an ideal place for riding a bike, so why was I there?

Yohn Baldwin has filed the site plan for a proposed development on the corner of Santiam Road and Main Street in Albany. But whether the project goes ahead may depend on how much the city requires to be done on Main.

City files for review of riverfront renovation

Albany is taking another step toward redeveloping the Willamette riverfront. One department of the city government has applied to another for approval of a site plan and related permits for making changes in Monteith Riverpark, on the Dave Clark Path, and along Water Avenue.

The lot you see above with a for-sale sign is at 3055 Salem Ave. S.E.. It’s on one of my bike routes through Albany, and it’s been vacant for as long as I can remember. But it may not stay vacant long.
