Those three big gray canisters on a scaffold along North Albany Road are voltage regulators Pacific Power has been installing over the last few days.
Albany Mayor Sharon Konopa called it “one ugly piece of equipment.” It’s a voltage regulator assembly, and Pacific Power plans to install it on city-owned property just north of the park-and-ride station off North Albany Road.
Some of the street trees planted along North Albany Road don’t look so hot these days. They seem to be suffering from drought and heat, and if they’re not already dead, the city is trying to keep them alive.
Albany city planners are reviewing not just one but two proposed site plans for commercial buildings in North Albany. They’ve just notified neighboring property owners of both.

As you can see — if you can see above the construction noise on the video — hardly a trace remains of the North Albany Road bridge across Thornton Lakes, and it looks as though the contractor has begun driving pilings for its replacement, which will sit two or three feet higher.
Plans filed for closed lube site on NA Road
For months, commuters on North Albany Road have driven past the closed Express Lube and car wash business at the corner of the Albany-Corvallis Highway. Now there’s a sign the corner may not remain dormant too much longer.
