Watching a train go by in close proximity is one of the rewards of riding a bike around Albany. You can stand and watch close to the tracks at pedestrian crossings such as the ones at Burkhart or Pine streets.
Another day, another train shot in Albany. But why not? Our town, after all, is a railroad town. Here, take a look:

On Monday I stopped at Albany Station to see how the construction of a raised concrete platform was coming along. Just then Amtrak’s Train 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, pulled in.
Train service has been further reduced, but new automated signs are being installed. That about sums up the latest from Albany Station.
Albany once was served by 50 passenger trains a day. Now there are six. But that’s still better than nothing, I’m thinking as I’m waiting for Cascades Train 507 to arrive from Portland Tuesday night.
One point on a route of more than 1,300 miles
Every once in a while it is good to remember that Albany is a stop on one of the premier passenger train routes in America.
