Not everybody is convinced that Benton County needs a new jail, even though it does. That’s the way it looks to me after a sparsely attended public “conversation” in North Albany Tuesday.
Something is definitely screwy with Oregon’s election law and how it’s being enforced, and the news from Albany and Corvallis points this out. Free speech is the main issue, but so is the penchant by local government to try to affect the outcome when people are asked to vote on higher taxes.
Benton vote: Keep wasting time
It’s disappointing that Benton County will have to continue wasting deputy sheriffs’ time driving inmates back and forth to jail in McMinnville and Newport now that a bond measure for an adequate local jail has been defeated.
