A visitor to Waverly Park alerted me Monday that people were raking off the unsightly algae, the subject of a couple of stories on this site. I got on the bike to take a look.

If you pass the 800 block of Calapooia Street, you’ll see that work has begun on the Albany Parks and Recreation Department’s project to update Henderson Park. But because of the usual suspect — supply chain issues — it will be a while before anyone plays on new equipment there.


Scenery getting cleaned along Albany paths

There has been considerable progress in the cleanup of vagrant camps along two of Albany’s multi-use paths. You cannot help but notice this if you go past these places every few days.


Heat at Waverly Lake: No pedaling for now

Heat may not be the only thing interfering with the summertime paddle boat rentals the Albany Parks and Recreation Department normally runs on Waverly Lake.


The mess on Cox Creek got worse

The bike and I took the Cox Creek Path in Albany on Tuesday to see if the Union Pacific had made any progress replacing its trestle across the creek and the path. The video below, with bonus footage of a passing train, shows what I found.

If you go west on Albany’s Dave Clark Riverfront Path, on your right just before you cross under the Lyon Street Bridge you see this partially burned-out cottonwood trunk .


Hanging out in center of a highway couplet

Surrounded by heavy traffic in the middle of Albany, there are two islands of lawn, flowers, bushes and trees. Lately the larger of the two has become a place for apparently homeless people to hang out.
