Look at the spruced-up community center

As you know by now, the Albany Senior Center has been transformed into the Riverfront Community Center, and on Thursday (March 24) there’s a “grand celebration” to mark its reopening after the closure and interior remodeling during the Covid pandemic.

On the riverfront: Old center has new sign

This used to be the Albany Senior Center, but since last summer it has had a new name. It’s the Riverfront Community Center now, and on a bike ride on a rainy Monday afternoon, I noticed the sign for the first time.

New pickleball courts: Finished and open

Two years after the Albany City Council approved their construction, new pickleball courts at Linn-Benton Community College are ready for play. While the college still has a sign saying the campus is closed to public use, City Manager Peter Troedsson says the courts are open.

At LBCC, tennis goes and pickleball comes in

At Linn-Benton Community College, they haven’t played tennis for years. And now they plan to replace their courts with a pickleball venue that the Albany Parks and Recreation Department will build.

Prompted by a reader’s comment about Albany’s Burkhart Square, I stopped there recently to take a look. One thing that made me want to know more was the plaque containing the dedication.
