City wording would ban pot, period

Written January 19th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

It sounds as though the city of Albany wants to outlaw not just dispensaries when they become legal next spring but medical marijuana itself. At the behest of four members of the city council, the planning commission on Jan. 27 will consider an amendment to the Albany Development Code, the city’s land use law.

Albany council talks pot, again

Written January 7th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Marijuana was on the minds of the Albany City Council again Monday. I’m speaking figuratively, of course. The mayor and five councilors (Bill Coburn was away) were nothing if not sober at Monday’s work session, where they spent nearly an hour hashing over what the city government might do come March, when the state expects […]

Written December 12th, 2013 by Hasso Hering

Albany issues — a chance to unload, and learn

Written November 24th, 2013 by Hasso Hering

If you are among those who grumble about the city government in Albany, a chance to talk to city officials face to face, without the formality of a public meeting, is close at hand. An open house is coming up at City Hall on Monday, Dec. 2, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

After bond defeat, a prudent council action

Written November 7th, 2013 by Hasso Hering

Some voters in Albany will think the majority of the city council is tone deaf. The people vote on a $20.3 million bond issue for a new police station and downtown fire station, and by Tuesday night 5,048 of them, a majority of those voting, have said no. Twenty-four hours later, five council members (only Rich Kellum dissents […]
