A ‘fresh look’ at police, fire projects

Written January 28th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Albany’s plans for a new police headquarters and downtown fire station will get a review of all the angles, from whether they are necessary at all to where and how they might be built. That’s apparent from the first meeting Tuesday night of a review committee co-chaired by former state Sen. Frank Morse and retired […]

Written January 28th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

The city council’s attempt to keep medical marijuana dispensaries out of Albany once state rules allowing them take effect in March may have hit a bump. Written January 19th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

The Albany City Council jumped back into the medical marijuana issue Wednesday, asking its staff to draft changes in the city land use law that would ban dispensaries within the city limits. Councilor Bessie Johnson, who said several weeks ago she did not want medical marijuana dispensaries in Albany, prompted the council action, which was not on […]

A life saver is recognized

Written December 4th, 2013 by Hasso Hering

A man talked of suicide and set himself on fire near the roundabout on Albany’s Knox Butte Road last Aug. 20. Police Officer Sam Posthuma kept him from completing that plan, and for that the officer has now been honored for saving the man’s life.
