Albany has three paved off-street bike paths, and now and then, especially when the weather is fine, it’s fun to make a circuit around town that takes in all three.

A newcomer to Albany asked me about the best bike route from the Monteith District to Heritage Mall. I gave him my opinion, and the question reminded me of a couple of other things regarding riding bikes in Albany.

Finding fault with a bicycle detector

It looks harmless enough, but there’s something not quite right with the bike detector installed at the corner of Ninth Avenue when Oak Street was rebuilt a few years ago in front of the Albany Lowe’s.

That’s an awkward place for a bike lane to end, and apparently I’m not alone in thinking so. Someone made the same point to the Albany Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission.
