The trouble with springtime, as we all know, is weeds. And trying to keep weeds from growing is a battle that cannot be won. But the Albany mayor would like somebody at least to try where city streets are concerned.

Edgewater: Things are happening

The dust was flying last week as lots of dirt was being moved in preparation for building more streets on the site of Edgewater Village, the planned complex of 60 houses and townhouses on Albany’s Willamette riverfront.

Street work: Help on where to walk

At first glance this detour looked contradictory, but on second glance I saw the little pedestrian on the yellow sign. Looks like the city and the contractor are making sure walkers can find their way through the street construction in downtown Albany this summer.

The switch that didn’t happen

For close to 40 years, this mile/kilometer marker stood on N.W. Oak Grove Drive outside of Albany. Now this lone sentinel of a long-forgotten campaign for the metric system lies flat on the ground, just like the conversion campaign itself.

ODOT: Raise speed limit for trucks

If you spend much time on I-5, you’ll be interested in this: ODOT engineers are recommending that Oregon raise the freeway speed limit for trucks from 55 to 60 mph, but they expect this would increase actual truck speeds only a little if at all.
