You probably had no idea there is such a thing as National Carousel Day, let alone when it is. Well, it’s on July 25, and that’s the date when the Albany Carousel is scheduled to open.
The Oregon legislature’s attempt to prevent distracted driving because of any kind of cell phone use could not get out of the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday. Chairman Floyd Prozanski salvaged the bill by arranging to have it transferred to the Senate Committee on Rules.
In Salem, the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning once again postponed action on Rep. Andy Olson’s bill to outlaw the use of any mobile electronic device while driving. It would be understandable if legislators had second thoughts about this bill.

ODOT: Raise speed limit for trucks
If you spend much time on I-5, you’ll be interested in this: ODOT engineers are recommending that Oregon raise the freeway speed limit for trucks from 55 to 60 mph, but they expect this would increase actual truck speeds only a little if at all.
