Things are looking up for the Waverly Duck and its Albany fans. It now appears conceivable that, if private money is raised, the floating creature can be repaired and eventually restored to its berth in the middle of Waverly Lake. 


Church proposed on Gibson Hill

Gibson Hill in North Albany would take on a new look if plans by the Saint Anne’s congregation take form. The hill would be crowned by a domed church to house the Eastern Orthodox church that now worships in a former grange hall in Lewisburg.

Albany PO: No plans to move

Mayor Sharon Konopa would like the Albany Post Office to find another site in town, but the U.S. Postal Service has no plans to move and says it would find it difficult to do so.


Truck stop: Why ODOT appealed

State highway officials want a new analysis of how the planned Love’s truck stop would affect the south Jefferson interchange on I-5. Either that, or they want Love’s to construct road improvements now or agree to share in the costs of future signals at the I-5 ramps.


Oregon bill would allow lane splitting

Lane splitting is legal in California, as the late Jim Clausen informed me when I marveled at the nerve of the guy in this shot, which I took on the Santa Ana Freeway and then published in October 2014. Some motorcyclists and state lawmakers now want to make the practice legal in Oregon as well.
