Reader Max Hoefer saw all the construction activity at the west end of the Jefferson bridge. “What is going on?” he asked. So on Sunday the Answer Man went to take a look.
Pretty much by chance the other day, I found myself in the basement room that holds the Oregon Collection at Albany’s Carnegie Library downtown. It’s the place to be if you’re interested in what happened in our town and state long before you and I got here.
On the bike the other day, I stuck out my left arm after not seeing anyone behind me and turned left. This earned me an angry honk from the driver whose vehicle I had not seen and who, I’m glad to say, missed me by a few yards.
Cross that bridge and remember a pioneer
To read this plaque, you have to cross this bridge on foot, which I did on Sunday. Having read it, though, you’ll want to call the Jefferson bridge over the Santiam by its proper name henceforth.
