The tree wells on downtown Albany sidewalks may look decorative, but Councilwoman Matilda Novak says they are a dangerous trip hazard and should be replaced.
That’s a fine-looking head of cattle, and one of these days it will overlook Second Avenue in downtown Albany the way its predecessor did a century ago.
Judging by Novak’s following on Facebook, lots of people in the mid-valley have been waiting for the Hungarian restaurant in downtown Albany to reopen. For them, the wait is almost over.
It may take another two months or so to finish repairs to Novak’s, the famous Hungarian restaurant in downtown Albany that was damaged by fire and smoke on Feb. 27.
On a stroll in downtown Albany the other evening, the buildings on this corner caught my eye. They show off the efforts of downtown owners to upgrade their buildings with the help of urban renewal.
In the business department, there are some items to take note of around Albany. A nationwide chain posed a small puzzle before opening a local branch in the city’s commercial center this week, and on a smaller scale, storefronts are being put to new use in the old part of downtown as well.
