The Maple Lawn preschool can stay open at least another year, and police and fire layoffs have been averted for now, but long-term structural problems in Albany’s city budget remain.

Albany’s city government faces budget cuts and potential layoffs over the next two years. That, in short, was the message City Manager Peter Troedsson had for the city budget committee Tuesday.

Maple Lawn reopening is up to GAPS
Like just about everything else, Albany’s city-run Maple Lawn Preschool has been closed since March 13 by the coronavirus shutdown. But it could reopen in the fall if the school board agrees.
