With the exterior restored and a new coat of paint, the former Cumberland Church looked good when I passed it on a bike ride last month. Now the organizers of the Cumberland Community Events Center hope the Albany City Council can help their project along.


Cumberland Church gets its steeple back

Today was a milestone in the conversion of the historic Cumberland Church into a center for community events on the east side of old Albany: The steeple was put back on.

Every evening lately I’ve ridden the bike past the former Cumberland Church to see if the steeple had been lifted off and moved in advance of moving the building itself, as is the plan. As you can see above, the answer is “not yet.”
