At the risk of overdoing the railroad theme on this blog, here’s yet another train episode.
On Monday I stopped at Albany Station to see how the construction of a raised concrete platform was coming along. Just then Amtrak’s Train 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, pulled in.
Train service has been further reduced, but new automated signs are being installed. That about sums up the latest from Albany Station.
[youtube video=”TPO7ZjJc6is”] Albany once was served by 50 passenger trains a day. Now there are six. But that’s still better than nothing, I’m thinking as I’m waiting for Cascades Train 507 to arrive from Portland Tuesday night.

With one exception caused by a thief in California, Amtrak trains have been arriving in Albany more or less on time this week. But the mayor is worried that a proposed change in federal regulation would weaken the law that says railroads must give passenger trains preference on their tracks.
Why the train was trying to hurry
Another day, another train shot in Albany. But why not? Our town, after all, is a railroad town. Here, take a look:
