Construction has tied up about half of the passenger platform at Albany Station since September. The project continues, and completing it looks to be a while off.
Passengers in the jetliner that left a contrail over Albany Thursday afternoon didn’t care what time it showed on the clock tower far below. But sooner or later you would think someone on the ground would.
Compared to homelessness, say, or world hunger, the clock tower at Albany Station showing four different times, all wrong, isn’t much of a problem. But you’d think it would be easier to fix.
The temporary fencing at Albany Station caught my eye on Saturday. It was not the only noticeable thing there, I found when I stopped to take a closer look.
Just before 3 on Wednesday afternoon, a southbound train of Amtrak’s Cascades service was parked at Albany Station. I wondered if there was something wrong.
That’s the trouble with all that time switching we are obliged to do twice a year. Some of us don’t always get around to it, not right away.
All aboard, but new platform’s not finished
On Monday I stopped at Albany Station to see how the construction of a raised concrete platform was coming along. Just then Amtrak’s Train 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, pulled in.
