A perspective from Oregon’s mid-Willamette Valley

On stage, but no applause

Written June 4th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

These teenagers were hanging out on the stage in Albany’s Monteith Riverpark the other day. They weren’t doing any harm, as far as I could see while having  a snack at one of the picnic tables nearby. Still, I’m not sure this stage is the best place for skateboarding or jumping up and down.

Albany dog park: The spot

Written May 25th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

What’s new on the plan to fence in an area for dogs at Albany’s Timber Linn Park? At last report, in this space on May 6, Parks and Recreation Director Ed Hodney said he had settled on Timber Linn as the place but had not yet chosen the specific corner of the park. Now he […]

Trouble on the Cox Creek path…

Written February 24th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

It’s been at least a week since a vandal defaced the railroad underpass on Albany’s Cox Creek path. Written July 11th, 2013 by

It’s my hope — forlorn though it may be — that some day a little floating bridge across the Calapooia River might once again link Albany’s Bryant and Monteith River parks. If you were around the mid-valley in the 1990s, you might remember that bridge, put in by Dave Clark, then the parks director in Albany. […]

Remember Dave Clark

Written November 5th, 2012 by

It was a little more than 10 years ago that death overtook Dave Clark, the city of Albany’s parks and recreation director for 27 years. We in the Albany area still benefit from his vision and his drive to get things done. Largely because of his ideas and plans and tireless work, we now can […]
