Tom Cordier challenges ballot title

Written February 23rd, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Tom Cordier, a member of the citizens committee that recommended a bond issue to build a new Albany police headquarters and main fire station, has gone to court and challenged the ballot title for the measure. He contends that the ballot question is neither as concise nor as fair as the state law requires.

Santiam Canal: Two money disputes

Written February 23rd, 2015 by Hasso Hering

The good old Albany-Santiam Canal is back in the news, as it frequently is, and money is the cause. Albany plans to bill Lebanon for a share of canal maintenance costs. And in a seemingly unrelated matter, a contractor and the city of Albany are trying to settle on the final payments for a repair job […]

Is this project really necessary?

Albany’s new deal with Lowe’s

Written January 29th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Even though there are no signs of this on the ground, or because of this, Albany Councilman Floyd Collins wants the public to know that plans for the Lowe’s home improvement store at Ninth and Oak are back on track.

Albany FBO plans to start Monday

Written January 28th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Infinite Air Center plans to be open for business Monday as the “fixed base operator” at Albany Municipal airport, the first FBO the field has had for about five years. The Albany City Council Wednesday authorized the city manager to sign a contract with Tony Hann, owner of the business, but not without grumbling by […]
